REJECTS – UPDATED PLOT
Artist draws great character design (average looking character, coloured, nice linework).
Bright light under lamp.
Gets thrown away.
Light fades away, similar to someone drowning.
Current page is claustrophobic, closing in around him.
Uses squiggle on the page to pull apart and shape an open door to jump into another page on the ground.
Hops into new page with other scrapped idea (cowboy mermaids?), runs away from them and tries to get to a new squiggle, opens door and jumps through into another page.
He’s the idea with ideas.
During this, the artist is having artists block and leaves the desk.
The drawing feels bad for the other scraps as he jumps through the door, and leaves it open for them to come through with him, into the next page.
Arrive in another page, repeat x 2/3
Now at the bottom of the desk, uses posters around the desk as a way up.
Whole group realises that only door to desk is closing, he’s the only one who can make these squiggle doors.
They raise him up, pyramid style, helping each other out.
This is their one shot.
They throw him up onto the upside down side of the poster’s silver signature, hitting the letters as they jumble around, and gripping onto the signature’s underline.
He builds the final door onto the underline using the letter outlines.
He is on the edge between the sketchbook page and poster.
He looks down at the crowd of rejected ideas, then looks through the door, hesitating whether or not he wants to be a solo idea again (possibly being thrown away again), or be part of a bunch of different ideas together (possibly a great idea conmbined).
The rejects look up and cheer for him, then turn away as it looks like he moves through the door.
A line/rope of colour falls at their heads.
They look up and the camera pans to the door.
He sticks his head out of it, colourless and smiling, as he gestures to them to follow.
As he waits, he’s alone on this blank page.
He looks around, and at himself, colourless & discouraged.
Is sad that he feels too basic looking without colour.
The rest of the rejected characters begin to come onto the page, few by few, celebrating that they’re all on this new page.
Adjusting to the light of the lamp like it’s the sun.
The more that come in, a few get into their poses around the main character.
The rest are setting up the backdrop, painting and building a set & logo.
They all pose and take their position in prep for the return of the artist.
Artist returns, says he must’ve been tired and forgot to colour in the middle character. Zooms into main character as artist begins colouring him. He smiles wide.
Artist likes the designs now.
Zooms out and shows the entire page.
The page is full of random and crazy scrapped characters, with the logo, built with anything and everything they had, of the name ‘REJECTS’.
