Story Spine – REJECTS

Once upon a time, an artist couldn’t decide upon character designs for a cartoon.

Everyday, he would come up with designs for characters.

Until one day, he throws away scrapped designs and ideas that he felt didn’t work, one of the recently scrapped character designs decides that it wants to be used.

Because of that, he uses the other crumpled pages of scrapped ideas as portals to make his way back to the artist’s sketchbook.

Because of that, he meets other scrapped designs and ideas that also didn’t make the cut, however he feels like he doesn’t need their help as he’s a better character design.

Because of that, he doesn’t realise that he’s gonna need help to get up to the desk and once the artist’s cat begins to play with the ball of paper, he’s helpless.

Until finally, he makes his way back through the scrapped worlds and asks for their help to distract that cat and get onto the desk. Once they do, they hop into the blank page of the sketchbook while the artist is stressing.

And ever since then, the artist liked the idea of these characters together as a group, finally finalising his cartoon as ‘Rejects’.

Moral of the story is, every idea has value.
